Trezor.io/Start® | Starting™ Up Your Device | Trezór®

Quick guide & presentation (for training, onboarding, or handout). Follow this step-by-step overview to set up your Trezor hardware wallet safely and confidently.

1. Unbox and inspect

1.1 What to expect in the box

When you open the package, confirm the device model and tamper evidence. Ensure there's no sign of tampering; if anything looks suspicious, pause and contact official support before proceeding.

1.2 Safety first

Always set up your Trezor on a secure computer and never share your recovery seed or PIN with anyone. Treat the recovery seed as the single most important secret for restoring your wallet.

2. Connect and start

2.1 Download Trezor Suite or use the web app

For the smoothest experience, download the Trezor Suite application or continue in the browser. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your device and install firmware if required.

Quick steps

  1. Connect the device via USB or follow the device pairing instructions.
  2. Open Trezor Suite (or web app) and choose Set up my Trezor.
  3. Install the latest firmware when prompted — this ensures security fixes and features are active.

3. Set PIN and create recovery

3.1 Choose a PIN

Choose a PIN you can remember but that others cannot easily guess. The device will enforce a limit on repeated wrong attempts, protecting your assets.

3.2 Write down the recovery seed

When the device shows your recovery seed (24 words on many models), write it down exactly, store it in a physically secure location, and never store it digitally. This seed is the key to restore funds if the device is lost.

Pro tip:

Consider duplicating the backup to two different secure locations (e.g., a safe and a safety deposit box) and avoid common mistakes like photographing the seed or saving it on cloud storage.

4. Finalize and test

4.1 Verify setup

Confirm the device shows a success screen, perform a test transaction with a small amount, and verify the balance appears correctly in the Suite app.

4.2 Update and maintain

Regularly check for firmware and Suite updates to maintain security. If you ever receive suspicious prompts or unofficial firmware warnings on the device, stop and consult support.

5. Best practices & troubleshooting

5.1 Best practices summary

5.2 If something goes wrong

If you suspect tampering, unreadable device, or lost seed, contact official Trezor support channels immediately. Avoid third-party “recovery services” or sharing seed with strangers — those are common scams.
